GLOBALFOUNDRIES
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) and Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) of Abu Dhabi have developed a new strategy for global semiconductor excellence. Together AMD and ATIC will create a US-headquartered, global, leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing company to address growing demand for reliable, independent, and leading-edge foundry production capabilities. This new global foundry will serve this need by combining advanced process technology, industry-leading manufacturing facilities and aggressive plans to expand its global capacity footprint.
Building on its history of developing award-winning semiconductor manufacturing facilities around the world, GLOBALFOUNDRIES will build a new 300 mm wafer fab at the Luther Forest Technology Campus. Construction of the new fab is began in 2009 and is the largest economic development project in the history of New York State. GLOBALFOUNDRIES plans to invest more than $4.6 billion dollars to construct and equip the new fab. Full-time employment is expected to increase to 1,465 jobs once full scale production is achieved.
